INSTRUCTION & ASSESSMENT
Assessment in the art classroom is something that is vital to have. I did not know this at first but gradually put it together as I went on throughout my student teaching. Within my classes I noticed that if the students were not being assessed on certain techniques or abilities that they would simply not complete them. Which is not okay to do. I started adding in rubrics after my 3rd week into my student teaching career. This allowed student to view the assessment, see what they are being assessed on and do their best to follow the guidelines. This helped tremendously with student work ethic and completion of work. I also do many informal assessments such as asking questions during classes. Pre-assessments and post-assessments are a big part of my lesson plans as well. Pre-assessments allow me to gauge where students knowledge is at. What they know and what they don't know. This helps me know what I need to be teaching them about. Post-assessments allow me to see what students have learned throughout the lesson and gauge wether or not I taught them effectively and well enough for the information to stick and for my students to be successful.
