STUDENTÂ - EDUCATORÂ - ARTIST
QUALITY STANDARD 4
Teachers demonstrate professionalism through ethical conduct, reflection, and leadership.
ARTIFACTS & RATIONALE
Element A: Teachers demonstrate high standards for professional conduct.

For this element I chose and email I sent out to parents when I started my long term sub job during my student teaching at Altona Middle School. Professional communication, especially with parents, is important. Being able to communicate with my students parents and inform them of information and changes in their daily school life is something that helps my relationship with parents and allows for open communication if parents have any questions concerning their child.

Element B: Teachers link professional growth to their professional goals.

For this element I chose a reflection worksheet titled "STOIC". I learned about this worksheet through the St. Vrain Valley School District student teacher seminar. This seminar allowed us to reflect and discuss our student teaching experiences. We met once a month during our 5 months of student teaching. I believe that this reflection worksheet on the multiple different areas of teaching help me see what I am doing well, what I could improve on and if I am reaching my goals as a student teacher so that I can run my own classroom one day.

Element C: Teachers respond to a complex, dynamic environment.

For this element I chose the "differentiation" section of my monochromatic yarn canvas lesson plan. The lesson I planned was based around working with mixed media and exploring new ways to make art. Students final pieces were to glue yarn onto a painted canvas in various forms to practice technique and creativity. If a student was unable to complete this task or did not have the means, they were able to utilize acrylic paint instead to practice their technique and creativity. Students also had the opportunity to advance their learning I they were accomplished in this by creating more complex shapes and designs with their yearn while gluing it onto the canvas. Every student always has access to all materials in my classroom but if for some reason a student is unable to create their project they way I had it planned their will always be other options and ideas so that this student can be successful.

Element D: Teachers demonstrate leadership in the school, the community, and the teaching profession.

For this element I chose a photo of a student drawing a photo of me for art club. During my time at Coal Ridge Middle School we had art club every Wednesday. I helped my mentor teacher run the club after school. Sometimes we would run specific lessons that my mentor taught or we had free art. During free art students can use any materials in the art room to create their work and my mentor teacher and I walk around the classroom assisting students with whatever they need. The student in the photo wanted to practice drawing people realistically so she decided to attempt to draw a photo of me realistically. Many students come to art club. We typically had between 15 - 30 students every Wednesday. Many of these students were not in our art classes but loved making art and getting help with their abilities.

REFLECTION:
I believe that I demonstrate professionalism well. Wether it is through emails with parent, calls to parents about students, differentiation to help a diverse population of students, or self reflection so that I can better equip myself with knowledge to be able to teach my students to my fullest capacity. All of these play an important role in being an educator. While I feel good about my leadership in schools I know that when I have an official teaching job at a school I would like to be more involved with the school community than just art club. I would like to be able to teach volleyball if I'm at the secondary level. I would like to be able to join leadership meetings that St. Vrain Valley School district has at each school and possibly be apart of the student council in some way.
